Are You Depressed? [Symptoms of Depression]
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, depression strikes millions each year, often with debilitating consequences. But how do you know if you’re depressed? It can be a lot more than being sad. According to Dr Kersi Chavda, psychiatrist, P. D. Hinduja Hosptial & MRC, Mumbai, “Most of us feel sad, lonely, or depressed at times. And feeling depressed is a normal reaction to loss, struggle, and ego hassles etc. But when these feelings become overwhelming and last for long periods of time (more than two weeks), that's when you need to hit the panic button.”
Not getting treatment can be life threatening. More than one out of every 10 people battling depression commits suicide, so it’s important to understand depression symptoms so one can get medical help as soon as possible.
