White Jamun or Wax Jambu as it is called is a summer fruit and is a variant of the black jamun or black plum. It is also called wax apple or water apple due to its texture and water content.

 

Health Benefits of White Jamun

This lesser known fruit is found in a lot of Ayurvedic, Unani and Chinese medicines and treats digestive problems like diarrhoea.

 

White Jamun is also good for diabetics, as it helps to improve blood sugar control. But caution needs to be exercised in case the person has diabetes nephropathy.

 

The seeds of white jamun are rich in calcium and also high in protien and carbohydrates.

 

It is also one of the main ingredients in Churan or laxative powder made with rock salt.

 

Reduces throat infections and respiratory diseases.

 

Regular intake of white jamun also helps fight flatulence.

 

Uses of White Jamun

Toss a few white jamuns or wax apple in a bowl with other citrus fruits and enjoy a healthy fruit salad.

 

Raw white jamuns are used to make vinegar and wine.
