Get Me a New Wife!
Cosmetic surgery has become so mainstream that not only are we willing to undergo it, we now talk about it as if it is like trying a new dish at a local restaurant. But would cosmetic surgery make a perfect gift for your partner? A lot of Indian men seem to think so. Cosmetic Surgeons around the country are seeing a lot of husbands who are willing to spend to get their overworked-toiling-for-everyone-wife back to looking like her younger, hotter self.
"There was a time, when my wife used to look sizzling hot. But after our first child, she has changed a lot. I wish I could get her back in shape and feel those curves, which made me weak at the knees," shares Anuj Sharma (name changed).
Anuj is not alone. Many husbands share his hidden desire to get their wives to look younger and sexier, and they are willing to spend lavishly to make that happen. Today's society seems to have no room for how pregnancy and motherhood changes, and takes a toll on, a woman's body.
Flat stomachs are replaced by stretch marks and flabby skin. Breasts, which were earlier firm now become either saggy or undergo volume loss. Dark circles become a constant due to sleepless nights of taking care of the baby. And these are only a few of the post-baby effects on a woman’s physical appearance and health.
Surprisingly, it is the men who are becoming concious about how their wives look. The trend of gifting makeover cosmetic surgeries to their wives seems to have only just begun. Men are keen to get their wives on board cosmetic surgery procedures that help them boost their confidence, rejuvenate their appearance, and repair damaged muscle and skin.
“Women who fall under the age bracket of 28-45 years generally opt for makeovers after child birth because unlike in earlier days when a woman thought her life was over after her child is born, today’s women take pregnancy and child birth just as ‘another step’ in their life. When it comes to keeping them in shape, their partners are playing an important role today,” said Dr. Manoj Khanna, Cosmetic and Plastic Surgeon, Enhance Aesthetics & Cosmetic Studio, New Delhi.
Getting the firmer self
Different types of correctional procedures are available for women in this age bracket, who opt to go under the knife rather than rely on a balanced diet and exercise to fight premature ageing.
The procedures can be both surgical as well as non-surgical and can be done on multiple parts of the body. The most common treatment is the breast sagging surgery. The breasts of a woman after pregnancy either become saggy or lose volume. The skin around the stomach, abdomen or thigh becomes loose during pregnancy resulting in stretch marks. Tummy tucks for loose skin around stomach, liposuction for the flabby thigh skin and abdomino-plasty to tighten the muscle and skin around the abdomen are the other most commonly treatments opted for.
These makeover treatments also focus on fighting early wrinkles, dull skin and pigmentation, caused due to high levels of estrogen in the body during pregnancy. This mostly occurs in a butterfly pattern around the eyes and cheeks. Treatments employing lasers and peels also help sun and age spots, which may also appear.
Another popular treatment is vagino-plasty, in which the skin and muscles in the vaginal area are tightened.
These treatments range from 1.5 lakh to 4 lakh and depends on the extent of the surgery. Interestingly, the increasing demand for these procedures is making them more affordable.
A controversial gift
It is important to note that if a woman focuses on fitness through correct and healthy diet and exercise before and during pregnancy, she will retain her pre-pregnancy looks. In fact, many times, pregnancy actually helps some women get better skin and hormonal balance. If you are considering this makeover surgery gift for your wife, then ensure that you do so in a sensitive and respectful manner. After all, how would you like it if your wife ran to the surgeon and asked him/her to Get Her a New Husband?
