What are Compound Exercises?


Compound exercises include the use of more than one major muscle group. In compound exercises, you workout a major group, but you have other muscle groups that supports the exercise too. According to Arnav Sarkar, “Compound exercises are those that target multiple body parts at one shot.”

Benefits of Compound Exercises:

Compound exercises increase the frequency of training muscle groups. For example, when you train your chest muscles, you are also working on your triceps. But the next day when you exercise your triceps, you are actually exercising your triceps twice. Compound exercises also exercise smaller muscle groups.

3) Dips
4) Pull-ups
5) Squats

What are Isolated Exercises?


Isolated exercises train or focus on one major muscle group. A single muscle group or joint is exercised, but it is still debateable as smaller muscle groups are also involved.

Benefits of Isolated Exercises:

Isolated exercises are beneficial for bodybuilding and those who are healing an injury. Isolated exercises also help to attain optimal workout for a specific muscle group. For instance, if you have already done an upper body workout, but you still want to beef up the chest muscles. That’s where isolate exercises come in.

3) Calf raises
4) Leg extensions
