Review: Creative WP-250 Bluetooth Headphones
Multifunction button and hidden mic, and wireless.
The fit takes some getting used to.
Great for fitness enthusiasts.
Enough folks have asked me about which headphones are best suited for the gym. Tangled wires, unwieldy controls, the sudden dash for the phone when someone points out that it’s ringing – workout music can be quite a hassle. But does it have to be? Not if you’re using the Creative WP-250 Bluetooth headphones. With a handy neckband, wireless playback, and easy controls, the Creative WP-250 Bluetooth headphones offer great value for money at just Rs. 3599.
The best feature, for the constant executives among us, is the multifunction button paired with a hidden microphone. Now, other Bluetooth headphones might offer ease of use when switching over from music to receiving calls, but the Creative WP-250’s multifunction button lets you do that – while running, cycling or even in the middle of a one arm bicep curl.
The next best feature is the neckband that, along with the in-ear design, ensures that the headphones don’t budge for the entire duration of the workout. But this takes some getting used to, so make your peace with the fit before you hit the floor.
The Creative WP-250 headphones are armed with intuitive control settings. This lets you skip, pause, play, increase/decrease volume, and receive phone calls with ease. The audio quality works well for phone calls too. I spent an entire day alternating between music and phone calls, at work and the gym. Not having to lug a phone around from machine to machine was a definite bonus. And by the evening the WP-250 headphones felt like a natural extension of, quite literally, my head.
But can the WP-250s replace noise cancellation headphones? Not just yet. While the playback quality is great for phone calls and sufficient for workouts, it doesn’t drown out the outside world. On second thought, this might just be a blessing in disguise for safety on the roads and workplace. You want performance, but not at the cost of being oblivious.
So get your Christmas monies out and buy these for yourself and friends who enjoy a good workout without feeling bereft. At just Rs.3599, I’m quite tempted to make this my workout buddy for 2012. The final verdict: The Creative WP-250 Bluetooth headphones definitely make the cut for fitness enthusiasts.
