Sedentary life, especially during old age, results in muscle weakness. When the muscles are weak, the pressure during movement shifts from the hip to the knee, causing discomfort while walking. This is primarily a fallout of weak lower body muscles - which means that your core (front to back abdominal core), quads, glutes and hamstrings are weak and shift the movement resposibilities completely to the knees - making them weaker.
