Single This Valentine's Day? 10 Things You Can Do
Sobiya N. MoghulOk ok... It's Valentine's Day! The day of love, new beginnings, over priced roses, heart shaped soft toys and couples in slow motion, holding hands, looking into each other's eyes and making promises of happily-ever-afters. And there you are standing at the end of the street all alone and single!
Even if you don't believe in one-day-for-love, what do you when all your friends are busy that day and even your boss permits you to go home early and your parents allow you to stay out little later than usual?
Don’t worry. We have a plan chalked out.
Valentine’s Day is all about hearts (literally), and you have one – yours! So today is the day to make that heart happy!
Now that you have saved a lot of money by not having to spend on lavish buffets, buying expensive jewellery or candies, spend it on buying something for yourself. Don’t go for the usual stuff like clothes and shoes, go for a good perfume, a gadget you have your eye on, or a gaming zone that you always wanted to enter (plus such places are empty on V-day).
DO NOT turn your phone off and crawl into bed early. Go to the nearby salon and get yourself a new hair cut, a foot massage, a manicure or a pedicure. These places will treat you exceptionally well, the reason being they have very few costumers today.
Be a good soul, and offer to help your married friends by babysitting their toddlers. Why not, right?
What about planning a secret dinner date for your parents? Trust me the feeling of seeing your mom and dad go on a date after all these years will make your smile reach your ears. Beware though, they might nudge you to come along. Don’t fall for the emotional fooling, drive them to the destination and then leave.
Remember you always complained how you didn’t get the time to watch scary movies, new movies and sitcoms? Today is the day. Before that, station your exercycle or treadmill in front of the LCD and than hit Play! You will not only finish your quota but burn calories too!
Cook! Call in your single friends (every group has 2-3) and show off your culinary skills. In fact, a lot of hotels and restaurants have great offers for Valentine’s Day, so go and use them for your benefit. The only hitch here is you may find yourself sitting between cooing couples. So brace yourself and be strong!
Valentine’s day is about love, and it is not restricted to a girl and boy only. You can take your grandparents for a ride, talk to them, crack jokes with them and you will feel the ice breaking within. You can also visit a NGO with your friends and spend a day with the under privileged, loving them.
Do you still feel frustrated about not having a date? OK hold on. Bundle up that frustration and head to the gym! Indulge in some High Intensity Interval Training and try to get that flab replaced by flat abs.
A lot of a travel groups have a one day trek on the outskirts of the city. Join that group. They not only reconnect you with nature but also test your fitness skills. By the end of the day you won’t even remember what day it was, all you’ll remember was the superb time you spent.
Still not convinced? Well, you my friend can opt for a calming yoga session. This will literally teach you how to open your heart again. And most instructors are totally patient with people who are brand new to the practice. Find a beginners' class.
