Beauty Tips: Skincare and Diet During Winter

As boring as it may sound, an optimal diet for overall health can benefit the skin as well. Because, a diet rich in antioxidants can slow down the ageing process. We take a closer look at how a diet rich in nutrients can benefit our skin, particularly in the winter months.

Adults are advised to:

  • Consume a sufficient amount of fruits and vegetables.
  • Choose a variety of fruits and vegetables from all five vegetable subgroups (dark green, orange, legumes, starchy vegetables)
  • Consume 100 gm (equivalent of 3 servings) of whole-grain products per day,
  • Consume 3 cups of fat-free or low-fat milk per day.

Select foods from the following list.

Avocado: Avocados are a rich source of Vitamin E, which is essential for glowing skin and shiny hair.

Yogurt: Yogurt is good for the skin. It has excellent anti-fungal properties and cures skin infections.

Garlic: It helps prevent cell degeneration, keeps the blood thin and prevents high blood pressure. It acts as an excellent antioxidant and helps in retarding the growth of abnormal cells, thereby preventing ageing.

 Ginger: Relieves constipation.

Turmeric: Helps purify the blood.

Broccoli: It helps the skin to detoxify and repairs itself.

Nuts: Nuts like almonds and walnuts are powerhouses of energy. Consuming a handful of nuts on a daily basis can also help fight ageing.

Water: Water flushes out all the toxins from the body and provides fluidity for the flow of blood. So, if you want a healthy, glowing complexion, it is important to consume plenty of water.
