What is Psoriasis? Britney Spears recently brought into focus a skin condition that will make you cringe. Thankfully this skin problem is not contagious. But who is susceptible to it? How do you treat it? How can you prevent it?
Apparently Britney has had psoriasis for a long time. It has intensified only lately when she has returned to the limelight as the judge of the reality show X Factor. This embarrassing skin problem has put psoriasis under the microscope once again (If you remember, the last celebrity to be scrutinised for psoriasis was Kim Kardashian). Britney Spears has been seen itching and the scaly skin has the shutterbugs in a tizzy.
‘Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that affects the skin. It occurs when the immune system mistakes the skin cells as a pathogen, and sends out faulty signals that speed up the growth cycle of skin cells.’ (Via)
It is categorised as irritatible, red, flaky patches of skin. It is attributed to autoimmune disorder, stress, excess or inadequate exposure to the sun, bacterial infection, AIDS, chemo and dry skin. It is traditionally believed to be hereditary.
Treatment ranges from severity of psoriasis. For example, Britney applies psoriasis skin cream. Treatments include lotion, creams, pills, phototherapy, antibiotics and certain precautions at home.
In the past, LeAnn Rimes has also revealed their struggle with psoriasis.
