Ask a smoker how tough it is to quit smoking and you'll realise how deep habits run. A well-entrenched habit has all the makings of an addiction. Why even go that far. Analyse your behaviour on Facebook or Twitter. It is tough to go on a sabbatical without posting where you are, what you’re eating and what your friends are up to. Yes, we struggle with a lot of addictions - mental and physical - but is it possible to let go and, instead, build healthy habits? Yes it is, says Malti Bhojwani, Life Coach and motivator extraordinaire.

As per Malti, one can develop good habits with just 30 days of conscious effort. She elucidates the plan of action, and begins with 'what defines a habit?' Watch the video to understand her take on how we can set and follow good habits on autopilot.

A quick teaser: ‘What we do everyday adds up to the sum total of the results we have in our lives’.

This brings us to our New Year resolutions; some of you might have tried yet failed. This is where Malti Bhojwani's habit philosophy comes in. Her secret is a checklist, a journal to give you a visual of the habits you have admitted and would like to replace. The checklist is deduced from your routine habits, which helps you achieve your goal.

After 31 days, you will see the fruit of your efforts in that checklist. It will be a book of truth, your endeavours will be recorded, your failures too. With this visual aid you can judge the good and the bad, and therefore, what needs to be done for future growth. You will have a log as testimony of your success. Once you achieve your goal, your healthy habits will set into autopilot and maintaining that healthy habit will be as easy as breathing. Good luck!
