There is a new variant of rice from UK which is completely healthy yet nourishing. It is amazingly low in calories, 100 grams of this rice comprises of only 7.7 kcal. This fabulously healthy rice is known as ‘Slim Rice’. It can make your tummy full without affecting your waistline as Slim rice consists of 97 percent water, whereas regular rice contains 64 percent water.
Besides, this healthy rice also contains an Asian root known as konjac. Konjac is a vegetable extract and it is also known as Moyu. Konjac, helps in stabilizing blood sugar levels, prevents hunger pangs and avoids over eating.
Though this rice is fabulously healthy but it has a strong smell, thus it needs to be rinsed at least twice under warm water to get rid of its distinctive odour.
As this rice is chewier than normal varieties of rice, it will help you to eat less by tricking your brain into thinking you have eaten a full meal. A single portion of this rice will help you top stay full for almost four hours.
Nevertheless, Tam Fry from National Obesity Forum says – ‘konjac has nasty side effects as well. Though it can make you feel fuller but it actually doesn't do much for you. Konjac is an appetite suppressant and people will eat it thinking they will get slim but might not be aware they could be starving themselves of nutrients.’
