Benefits of Coconut Oil for Oral Health

At some point we've all faced dental issues like bad breath, yellowing teeth or even a cavity or two. Each year we spend a great deal of money on oral care to fix these problems. But what if we tell you there was a simple solution to all these dental problems!

These days everyone's talking about the age-old practice of oil pulling and its benefits for oral health. Oil pulling is nothing swishing your mouth with a spoonful of coconut oil. A single rinse of coconut everyday can help maintain optimal dental health. Here are some of these benefits.

Decreases tooth decay

our mouth is teeming with bacteria t all times. These bacteria are the main reason for plaque build-up and tooth decay. While brushing and flossing will help reduce plaque build-up too, it is oil pulling that has been recommended as the best remedy. A study suggested that a single routine of oil pulling can reduce the amount of Streptococcus mutans on teeth in about two weeks.

Prevents and treat gingivitis
Gingivitis is a gum disease that is caused due to the accumulation of plaque in the gaps and spaces between your teeth. Over time this leads to gum bleeding and bone loss. Oil pulling has been proved to be an effective treatment to reduce gingivitis up to 60 percent in comparison to brushing and flossing that ensures 13 percent effectiveness.

Prevents bad breath
Bad breath or halitosis is a fairly common condition and can be quite embarrassing. You can try mint or gum to freshen your breath but these only have a temporary effect. Oil pulling has been recommended to beat bad breath.
