The treadmill is one of the most popular gym equipments. It is recognised as one of the most common and easiest way to burn calories quickly. Most fitness experts recommend a 20 minute cardio session on the treadmill to kick start a good workout but is that all that counts? In order to make the most of this 20 minute treadmill workout, here are a few essential tips to remember.

Begin slow and then speed up gradually
Beginning off at a high speed can cause injuries. One should always begin a treadmill workout at a lower speed and then speed up gradually. Even if you plan to run on the treadmill, ensure you begin at a slower pace and then head to the fast paced strides.

Maintain the right posture
It is also important to maintain the right posture when you use the treadmill. Ensure your back remains straight and that you don’t hunch while walking or running. A bad posture can cause lower back aches. Many people tend to stare at their feet while on the treadmill, look ahead instead, to maintain a good posture

Concentrate on your walking technique

While on a treadmill, most people mistakenly land on their heels or toes. Ideally one should always land on ones midsole while running or walking on the treadmill.

Jog in between brisk walking
No doubt walking on a treadmill can help burn calories but adding some jogging in between can make this cardio session more effective. Begin with some brisk walking for 15 minutes and add in a 5 minute jog after that. But make sure you go back to walking soon after the jog or else your legs will begin to hurt.

Change your usual routine every 3 days
Sometimes working out on a treadmill can get boring. In such cases try changing your treadmill workout occasionally. Try slow walking for longer distance for three days in a week and then switch to fast paced walking for a shorter distance on the other days.
