How to Use Facebook to Get Fit

In our quest to socialize and stay connected using Facebook, we often neglect the need to remain fit and healthy. But is it possible to renew our commitment for a healthier lifestyle using the popular networking site? With more than 750 million active users worldwide, Facebook is one of the best mediums to attain our fitness goals. From interacting with your favorite health brands to posting health notes and using popular fitness applications; Facebook can be an important outlet for your fitness. Check out the interesting ways by which Facebook can promote and maintain your fitness level while keeping you “connected”.
Follow Facebook groups and communities: If you are looking for a new and innovate way to get in shape, try joining popular Facebook health groups and communities. The sense of community and support can make a big difference to a person who is otherwise struggling to follow a routine work schedule. This will not only keep you motivated but will also help you to compare and analyze results with other group members. Every day, dozens of groups geared towards strength training, diet control and weight loss create new pages on Facebook and as such, it gets a little confusing at times to decide.
The trick is to find a group that inspires you the most, having similar fitness goals and objectives and which can be used as an ideal information exchange platform.
Facebook Fitness Applications: Lots of discussion with no visible results is as good as the inane social networking that we indulge in everyday despite being a member of the different health communities. One of the best ways to maintain and log your fitness levels is by adding various Facebook exercise trackers. Try searching applications like Fit-ify or Hot Cal on the search menu of the Facebook main page. Once adding the application, you will then be directed to a page where you will have to enter personal information like gender, height and weight related to the workout log. Some of these applications even present awards for different accomplishments. Apart from these, you can also check other groups like “Weight Loss and Training Tips” and “Yoga Journal Yoga Pose of the Day”.
Share notes and information about fitness programs: Are you planning to learn aqua aerobics to improve your strength and balance but not able to decide where to go or who to approach? Just post a status on your Facebook Home Page or create a “note” for a lengthier description. Within seconds you will be flooded with suggestions and comments.
A Note is one of the basic Facebook applications which can be used like a blog to give a detailed description of your fitness goals and aspirations. You can even use this tool to create a dedicated fitness page to report your fitness targets and progress. In case you prefer using your personal blog site, you can also share the link in your Facebook status.
Visual Feedback: Posting pictures on Facebook is another great way to keep oneself motivated. Everyone wants to put their best face forward and the possibility of someone tagging an unflattering photo without your knowledge is always a matter of worry. Use this fact to your advantage and source of inspiration by creating new picture galleries and profile images. You can not only use it as a form of visual feedback but also as a mode of comparison with your friends or other members of your fitness group. And after all, who would want a profile picture that is unflattering and looks unattractive.
So, log in to your account and “socially” motivate yourself to create a healthy and fit lifestyle using Facebook.
