Fitness may not always be about rigourous training and extensive cardio, regular outdoor activities can help you burn those extra calories too. Unlike the other two Indian seasons, summer offers the best opportunity to engage in some fun outdoor activities. Grab this chance and indulge in some fun ways to lose calories this summer.


Swimming: A relaxing dip in the swimming pool may do you more good than just cooling you off. While serious swimming will surely help you burn calories, did you know that leisure swimming too can burn calories? Just enjoy the water and swim at a slower pace.


Bicycling: Summer can always be associated with your childhood bicycling days. Back then it just seemed like a fun holiday activity, but these rides actually helped you stay fit as a kid. Take up this activity again and get those calories burning instantly.

Our cramped up city lives probably don’t give us enough of an opportunity to engage in volleyball but this game can help you lose calories, tone your legs, shoulder and core and also up your heart rate. Plan a beach visit on the weekends to schedule this fun activity or just find a gym or open space that’s apt for volleyball.

Water sports: Summers are also perfect to engage in some water sports. You can find many ventures that offer water sports all summer round. Water sports like kayaking, water skiing, water rafting are fun and can yet help you lose some extra calories.

Badminton: For this outdoor game, all you need are rackets, shuttlecocks and a friend or two. This game is super fun and can help you burn almost 50 calories in just 10 minutes of game play.

Vacationing: No matter what age we may be, summer holidays will always remind us of those childhood summer vacations to different places beyond the city. Whenever you’re on your vacations, go exploring the places and walk around new cities.

Gardening: Summer is all about the new blossoms, use this season to grow your own garden. Spending time bending and squatting gives your glutes and core a good workout. Planting your own produce will ensure that you have fresher vegetables in your diet.

Treks: Many people these days take up summer treks to high hills that are otherwise inaccessible in the other months. These treks are usually very challenging and can help you burn many calories.


Soccer time: Instead of spending the weekend at an eatery, plan up a soccer match with your buddies. Even 10 minutes of gameplay can help you burn almost 75 calories.


Other outdoor activities: Many other outdoor activities like rollerblading, Frisbee playing, golf, tennis etc. are also fun yet effective ways to lose calories
