Infectious Diseases Killed Nearly 1,700 Chinese in July

Infectious diseases killed a total of 1,669 people in China last month, with AIDS accounting for 70 percent of the deaths, the health ministry said Tuesday.

As many as 5,552 AIDS cases were reported in July, Xinhua reported.

Viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, syphilis, dysentery and gonorrhoea were the top five infectious diseases.

A total of 75 deaths were caused by hand-foot-mouth disease.
