Devil's Circuit: India's First Obstacle Course Competition
If running on a designated straight path is boring, try your hand (read: Feet) at the Devil’s Circuit this Sunday. As evil as it sounds, the Devil’s Circuit sounds like loads of fun. Let’s get behind the scene of India’s first ever obstacle race, the Devil’s Circuit.
The Devil’s Circuit is organized by GameOn India, a social sportal and will be held at the Ireo Waterfront in Sidhwan Canal Road, Ludhiana on December 2nd, 2012. It is a 4km run that will challenge skill and stamina through barb wires, nets, ropes, etc.
Adnan Adeeb, co-founder of GameOn India, says: “For starters, Devils Circuit is more fun than any other forms of running. It involves separate sets of obstacles placed every 500 meters and tests you mentally and physically. Moreover, the runners are not competing against each other. Everyone who finishes is a winner.” Seems like a race for you!
The best part of the Devil’s Circuit is that you will not be timed, you just have to complete the race. Hence every participant will receive a trophy and medal at the finish line. But the cherry on the top is the mug of beer waiting for you at the finish line. Each runner will receive a t-shirt, BMI check up by expert medical teams and digital photographs. Along the route you will find guides to direct you to the path and water facilities to keep you hydrated.
Participation fee – Rs. 500
Interesting obstacles you can expect at the Devil’s Circuit:
Bloody Logs : These are wooden logs placed in a manner that every individual has to jump over or crawl under them to move ahead in the course. The logs ensure that running enthusiasts take a halt and use their lower limb to generate power.
Hells Nets : One of the favourites of the Defense fraternity, this obstacle requires athletes to use their forearm strength to crawl across a net suspended in air. Balance and stability are equally important in overcoming this challenge.
Stairway to Hell: Stacks of hay, shaped like a pyramid, are designed to ensure a continuous ascend and descend for the runners.
Devils Swing: This obstacle reminds one of the monkey swings of childhood. A test of upper body strength; this challenge will see athletes moving forward using their shoulders without any support of the lower body.
Pools of Shrill: This obstacle comes straight out of the notebook of festival holi. This segment of the course will involve a splurge in the chilly, muddy water for the participants.
Torture Trenches: True to their name, torture trenches will have barb wires to keep the participant on their knees. The wires and muddy ground will keep everyone in close proximity to mother earth
Tire Trawls: This challenge consists of over 100 tyres spread across 100 meters. These wheels make normal running impossible and forces all enthusiasts to hop and run.
